The StartUp Scramble™ DC University Challenge Overview

From January 29th-31st, 2010—54 hours straight—teams of students will meet to pitch, plan, and work tirelessly to launch socially-conscious businesses and organizations. This weekend event enables participating DC-VA-MD-based university students to bring their ideas to their entrepreneurial peers and deep-dive into an accelerated process of venture development. 

Over the course of an intense, facilitated start-up experience, guest mentors, speakers, and panel members visit, providing participants with the opportunity to network with potential investors, service providers, and employers. 

The StartUp Scramble™ DC University Challenge concludes Sunday evening with teams pitching their ventures to a panel of expert judges. Winning teams will receive mentorship, up to $1,000 in seed funding, entry into a global network of Ashoka "changemakers" (the world’s leading association of social entrepreneurs), and the possibility of one year of incubation services from Ashoka and its partners.

WHO?
Undergraduate students from eight DC-MD-VA universities are invited to particiapte in the StartUp Scramble™ DC University Challenge:  American University, Catholic University, George Mason University, Georgetown University, Howard University, The George Washington University, University of the District of Columbia, & University of Maryland.

WHAT?
Get on the grind with DC-area college entrepreneurs! The StartUp Scramble™ DC University Challenge brings entrepreneurial-minded students together in a weekend-long event to launch and fund sustainable ventures that address social issues affecting local communities.

Space is limited.  There is a $25.00 buy-in fee that helps to cover food and event costs.  All participants also receive an annaul subscription to GOOD Magazine.  The StartUp Scramble™ DC University Challenge concludes with teams pitching their ventures to a panel of prestigious judges for cash prizes and other awards.

WHEN?
January 29th-31st, 2010
The weekend begins @5:30 PM on Friday and conlcudes Sunday evening after pitches

WHERE?
The event will take place at the offices of Touchstone Consulting Group on 19 and N in Dupont Circle. Participants will also have the opportunity to work closely with Touchstone consultants throughout the weekend as you build out your social ventures!
